Bear shot with arrow not believed to be act of hunting

Conservation Officer Eamon McArthur says they do not believe hunting is a factor in regards to a bear incident last week in the Hart.

On Friday, officers were informed of a black bear in the community that was shot with an arrow.

“We’ve been looking into that because it’s a concerning incident but from what we can tell at this moment hunting wasn’t involved and we are just following up on a few leads,” explains McArthur.

“Ideally we’d like the person who did it to turn themselves in because it would go a lot smoother that way but with any luck, we can locate the individual and deal with it in kind.”

The inspected arrowhead’s makeup is the reason McArthur says they do not believe it is hunting, however, bow hunting within city limits is not illegal.

The persons involved, or anyone else with information, is being asked to contact the BC Conservation Office Service.
