Temporary Use Permit for Redeemed Christian Church of God extended

Those who attend the Redeemed Christian Church of God at 3580 18th Avenue can continue to do so.

Prince George Council went against Administration’s recommendation to deny an extension of a Temporary Use Permit at the location and unanimously passed a three-year extension.

“We’re going away very much happy and smiling, and God-willing that we’re going to see, hopefully, the start of finding something more appropriate so we won’t have to come back in three years time,” says Harry Backlin, who made a presentation on behalf of the group.

The churchgoers had been gathering at the 18th Ave location since 2015 when an original three-year permit was approved. Councillor Brian Skakun brought forward the new recommendation Monday evening.

Now, Backlin says they can get back to work finding a more permanent church. He notes the aesthetic importance of a church.

“Find a building someplace in the city that we could afford to buy and convert it physically to make it look, not only from the inside but from the outside, more ways to show that it is a church and that’s what [we] intend to do.”

Backlin says finances are the biggest issue since the church has to do all the funding on its own.
