Third reading granted for PG housing development despite community concerns

Council’s decision to grant third reading on a 66-unit housing development was not without objection from local residents.

A handful of concerned locals appeared in front of council Monday to protest the development at Foothills Boulevard near Chief Lake Road. The number one concern for parents especially is the loss of a green space.

“I can really appreciate that. That if you bought a piece of property, you thought you had a greenbelt behind you, and all of a sudden a development is going in, I would be concerned as well but I think Development Services acknowledged here that was never going to be greenbelt in perpetuity,” says Councillor Murry Krause.

The developer, L&M Engineering Ltd. for Kidd Real Estate Holdings Ltd., announced during the public hearing it would work together with the community to create a development plan. Krause was pleased with the offer.

“What I heard from the developer was that they’re thinking about a buffer zone, a green buffer, along the road between the new development and the houses that exist there.”

Krause recommends asking your realtor about zones when buying a home so you don’t get caught off guard.
