Multiple events to open Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Pavilion

People heading to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park will soon see something new.

A partnership between the City of Prince George and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has a Pavilion to the park.

Four days of activities will help with the unveiling of the new structure. Festivities start on National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21st) and continue through Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (June 24th).

Visitors are also being welcomed to enjoy music, public art, theatre, and storytelling. All events will be for children and families, and will focus on fostering intercultural understanding and greater community pride.

A full itinerary is available here.

The City changed the name of Fort George Park to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park in 2015 to acknowledge the First Nation’s traditional territory and the presence of a village that once existed in the area.

Funding for the Pavilion came from the City, the Government of Canada’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, the Province of BC, and Northern Development Initiative Trust.
