NHL:

The Stanley Cup will be in the building Thursday night in Vegas with the Washington Capitals enjoying a 3-1 series lead over the Golden Knights.

Teams leading a best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final 3-1 are 32-1.

The Capitals are averaging four goals a game in the series.

Brett Connolly of Prince George has two goals in the first four games and eight points (6G, 2A) in 23 playoff games for Washington.

The Golden Knights are riding their first three-game losing skid in three months.

The New York Islanders cleaned house by sacking both general manager Garth Snow and head coach Doug Weight.

The Islanders new president of hockey operations Lou Lamoriello will take over as GM and will oversee the hiring of a new coach.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars graduated captain, Mason Richey, has committed to play for the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL for the 2018-19 season.

The 18-year-old Richey, who is from Terrace, led the Cougars in scoring with 64 points (26G, 38A) in 40 games while also accumulating 38 penalty minutes.

Richey is the B.C. Major Midget League’s all-time leading scorer.

 

CANUCKS:

Legendary B.C. broadcaster and PA announcer for the Vancouver Canucks and Vancouver Giants, John Ashbridge, has passed away at the age of 71.

Ashbridge was the first news director for CJCI Prince George (Now called Country 97FM) from 1970 to 1973.

 

NBA FINALS:

After a two-day break, the NBA Finals will resume tonight (just after six).

The scene has shifted to Cleveland with the Golden State Warriors ahead 2-0.

Teams that take a 2-0 series lead in the NBA Finals have a 29-4 record.

The Cavaliers are 8-1 at home in the playoffs.

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Lady Timberwolves have recruited six-foot-one post Cevanna Carlson for the 2018-19 Canada West basketball season.

Carlson graduates this month from Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks, Alberta, where she has been an impact player.

She will pursue education in First Nations Studies at UNBC.

 

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS:

College Heights won the point-total at the North Central zone high school tennis championships in Prince George.

Evan Crobar of PGSS (in Senior Boys) and Jessica Nycolat of College Heights (in Senior Girls) won the Singles tournaments.

A total of 17 boys and 13 girls from Kelly Road, College Heights, and PGSS competed.

The RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits play the Mackenzie Lumberjacks tonight, 8PM at Kin 1 in PG Senior Lacrosse.
