2018 PG Law Enforcement Torch Run brings in over $3,600

Over 100 walkers took part in the 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics BC last week. The Prince George detachment is the only one in the North District to hold the event.

Fundraising efforts, including a car wash event held in late May, brought in over $3,600, all of which will be donated to Special Olympics BC.

The walk raises money and awareness for Special Olympics athletes in the province, with the PG RCMP placing special focus on local athletes. PG RCMP was joined by members of the BC Sheriffs Service, Prince George Fire Rescue, and Special Olympics athletes, coaches, friends, and family.

“The Prince George Detachment is once again honoured to host the Law Enforcement Torch Run in our community,” said Superintendent Warren Brown, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP, in a statement.

“The public support has been overwhelming and the appreciation of the athletes makes all the efforts worthwhile.”

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a worldwide initiative to help Special Olympics athletes experience acceptance, achievement, and admiration through sport.
