UPDATE: Fire crews estimate $250,000 in damage to Spicy Greens

UPDATE:

Prince George Fire crews have estimated damage of Spicy Greens to be $250,000.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Library goers in the Hart are still unable to access the Prince George Public Library’s Nechako Branch after Tuesday’s fire at Spicy Greens Restaurant.

The branch is located right next door to the eatery and sustained smoke damage as well some minor dings following operations from local fire crews.

Anyone of their 6,400 patrons who wish to access services during the closure is in luck.

“We are setting up our library van today (Thursday) in the parking lot at the Hart Shopping Centre so if people have questions or have to access their account or if they have items they want to renew, we invite them to come and say hello,” says Amy Dhanjal, Communications Coordinator.

While it remains unclear exactly when the library will re-open, Dhanjal adds library administration and city staff are making sure every precaution is taken before the doors re-open for good.

“We just want to make sure its safe for staff and patrons to be in the branch so we are going to be doing some air quality testing next week and then we’ll have a better idea as to when the branch can re-open.”

The van will be available from 2PM to 10PM today and from 10AM to 2PM on Friday.

Eight staff members have also been affected by the brief closure.

Due to the smoke damage, all of the ceiling tiles are being replaced.

There are 25,000 items stored at the Nechako facility including books, audio books, DVDs and other materials.
