WATCH: Power restored to thousands, floods drain away in aftermath of PG storm

UPDATE – 6:30AM (THURS):

Prince George isn’t out of the woods yet as the severe thunderstorm watch for the city remains in effect.

BC Hydro appears to have restored power to almost all of the 7,000 customers who lost connection Wednesday night due to heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

The intersection of Tabor Boulevard and 5th Avenue was also closed temporarily due to flash flooding.

We will your keep posted on any further developments from last night’s summer storm.

 

ORIGINAL STORY – 9PM (WED):

Environment Canada’s severe thunderstorm watch is now in full effect for the Northern capital.

According to the network, winds are blowing at 30 kilometres an hour, pushing rain across Prince George.

Lightning and thunder have also been noticeable in the summer storm.

BC Hydro is also responding to several outages in the City, including the bowl and Hart regions because of the thunderstorm.

Almost 7,000 customers are without power due to downed wires or lightning.

The rainfall has eve flooded the entrance of Kin 1 Arena where a Prince George Senior Lacrosse game was taking place.
