Remuneration set for Council, Mayor

It took over an hour but Council has decided on salary increases to counter next year’s cancellation of tax exemption.

The mayor will see an increase of 22%, while councillors will rise 12%.

There have been no general raises since 2010, so an additional increase of 4.5% was granted for the mayor, to bring the remuneration to $127,889. An additional six percent raise for councillors was rejected, their remuneration is $37,466.

In addition, the mayor’s monthly vehicle allowance has more than doubled, going from $300 up to $750. The original recommendation was to increase the allowance to $1,065 but the happy medium was found to be more suitable.

Remuneration changes will take effect for the next mayor and council, starting January 1st, 2019.
