City stays local for Fire Hall #1 engineering lead

L&M Engineering of Prince George has been selected to lead the engineering design team for the new Fire Hall #1 in Carrie Jane Gray Park. The company has worked on a number of civic facilities and designs for the City and School District 57.

Sticking with British Columbian companies, HCMA Architects & Planning will lead the architectural design team. The Vancouver-based company is no stranger to PG, having designed the Bioenergy Plant at UNBC and are currently working on a new design for Kelly Road High School.

“The new fire hall will house modern firefighting equipment and improve response times to a greater area of the City. It would also ensure that Prince George is better positioned to respond to emergencies and provide enhanced fire dispatch services to a large portion of Northern BC,” said Fire Chief John Iverson in a statement.

“The new Fire Hall #1 will also be 50% larger than the current facility and have the capacity to house a functional and well-designed Emergency Operations Centre and Fire Operations Communications Centre.”

A design will be developed throughout the year with a public information session set for later this fall.

Construction is expected to start spring 2019 and extend through most of 2020.
