Chicago cubs promote Young prospect from Prince George

Days after being selected as the organization’s player of the month for June, the Chicago Cubs have decided to give Jared Young a boost.

The Prince George product has been called up from the South Bend Cubs to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League, the Cubs’ Class ‘A’ Advanced affiliate club, two steps beneath the major leagues.

The now 23-year-old was assigned the first-base position, made his first appearance with the Pelicans on Sunday, and recorded his first RBI in his new team’s 8-7 loss to the Buies Creek Astros.

Young was also named a mid-season Midwest League All-Star with South Bend and has a .304 (77-for-253) batting average with 13 doubles, six triples, nine homers, and 52 RBI’s in 67 games this season leading up to the move.

Chicago selected Young in the 15th round of the 2017 Draft out of Old Dominion University (ODU).

He is the highest pick of any Prince George player in the history of the MLB draft.
