PG RCMP hold bike registration events

Prince George saw a decline in bike thefts last year, the first time its happened since 2013.

This year though, there’s been a slight increase with 71 bike thefts taking place at the end of June compared to 65 last year.

July and August was when 44% of bike thefts in the city happened last year and PG RCMP is holding bike registration events to help combat this.

Ownership details, a serial number, and photos of the bike will be registered, and if that bike is stolen, the data can be easily given to police and insurance companies. The information can also be distributed to other riders through the 529 Garage smartphone app.

“We are working hard to provide the public with more opportunities to register their bikes,” said Cpl. Craig Douglass, the officer leading this initiative.

“In order to attend more events and locations, we need more volunteers.”

  • Wednesday, July 15th, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm in the Canadian Tire parking lot;
  • Sunday, July 15th, from 10am – 12pm at the Pidherney Enduro event, Pidherny Recreational area;
  • Sunday, July 15th, from 11am – 5pm at Downtown Summerfest in Canada Games Plaza;
  • Sunday, July 15th, from 6pm – 8pm at the Pidherney Pump Track Challenge, Pidherny Recreational area; and
  • Saturday, July 21st, 10am – 1pm at the Otway Recreational area
