Opening of Masich Place right around the corner

Masich Place is slated to open next month after announcing the project renovations two years ago.

Construction began last year with it totaling approximately $4.8 million. The field includes the first outdoor synthetic field in Northern B.C., meeting FIFA, CFL, and World Rugby regulations.

“The most tangible thing will be that user groups will be able to use it much earlier in the season and also later into the fall than the natural turf fields,” says Gina Layte Liston, Director of Public Works.

The new Masich Place Stadium also has jump areas, throwing facility and cage, track resurfacing, and upgrades to trail development.

Contract crews are currently putting the final aspects of the facility down, including curbing and line painting on the track, fence construction, pole vault shed and jump pits, and grading of the throws landing area.

The City anticipates work will be completed and the facility available for bookings after August long weekend. An official grand opening will be held at the stadium later this summer.
