Contract talks will have to continue after time ran out following two days of negotiations between Mt. Polley and the United Steelworkers.
“I believe that we’re fairly close to achieving what we believe is a fair collective agreement so we’re certainly being optimistic that we can achieve that early next week if that’s possible,” said USW 1-2017 President, Brian O’Rourke.
Strike action affecting approximately 200 unionized workers whose collective agreement expired December 31, 2017, began on May 23 following a three-hour company lockout.
The USW 1-2017 Bargaining Committee said in an online update Monday that their breach of Section 54 case at the BC Labour Board resulted in an award for damages to Mount Polley Employees who were laid off in January and February of 2018.
The BC Labour Board according to the Committee also made a decision on an application made by the Union in regards to concerns about the Company using replacement workers and said that the Company must provide the Union with notice of new hires as well as a description of their job duties.
