Prince George ranked 5th active city in Canada

Prince George is getting recognition for being one of the most active cities in Canada.

The Northern Capital ranked 5th in the Expedia survey, putting us behind Calgary and ahead of Toronto.

Expedia surveyed large and small communities ranking them based on access to hiking trails, gyms per capita, and outdoor activities.

“I’m not surprised Prince Geroge ranked so high as an active city,” says Tourism PG’s Erica Hummel. “We are known for that, that’s why we live here and everybody here understands the DNA of the city. We are all about the outdoors and the balance between the urban amenities and the wilderness next door.”

Having us ranked so high on being an outdoor and active city can contribute to a boost in tourism added Hummel.

“I think it’s great for awareness. I think people read these articles and maybe they haven’t thought of Prince George before. They are familiar with Vancouver and Whistler, but when the media puts Prince George in that caliber with those kinds of communities, I think it’s a great awareness piece.”

Smithers was the only other northern community to make the list ranking 20 out of 21.
