Fire near Valemount should not be a worry: BC Wildfire Service

The BC Wildfire Sevice is responding to a fire about one kilometre east of Valemount’s municipal boundaries.

“Currently, the community does not need to be alarmed,” explains Fire Information Officer Amanda Reynolds.

“The fire is burning away from the community and the cooler temperatures and precipitation will help with suppression efforts at this time.

“We have resources available and with these cooler temperatures that we are anticipating in the next couple days, it will help with suppression efforts as well as we are anticipating some precipitation in the next couple of days.”

At this time, the fire is about 20 hectares in size.

The Robson Valley is experiencing dry lightning strikes and the potential for more fire starts in the area is possible.
