A personal trainer from Prince George is over the moon after the City of Prince George decided to expand the hours of Masich Place Stadium on Monday night.
The hours on most days will be from 6AM to 9PM, with user groups allowed to book certain times as well.
Katie Paolucci launched a petition last week, which garnered over 2,000 signatures and she believes it was the tipping point in the council’s decision.
“The petition I put out was just over a week ago and I knew there would be a lot of interest to it but I didn’t know exactly how much interest but was really quite pleased with how the community came together and city council said it best that they couldn’t ignore it.”
“I had a number of people on the street tell me that and also had a number of council members say that if it’s not brought to their attention and sometimes they don’t think about and that they are not mind readers.”
The week-long petition also received the support from fellow city councillor Brian Skakun, she says his support further enhanced their efforts to increase public use.
“He was sure a big voice for us and was certainly a big help, it seemed to me though that the majority of the council was confused by the short hours in the first place and they were quite happy to see them go back from the way they were before.”
Previously, the city planned to limit hours from 6AM to 1PM.
The facility is set to re-open on August 7th with a grand opening planned for later in the month.
