The potential EpiPen shortage across Canada should not be an issue for Prince George residents.
London Drugs Pharmacy General Manager Chris Chiew says the company who manufactures them, Pfizer, has actually been in-and-out of stock of the product for the last year.
“We have been managing our inventory. Every time that [Pfizer] states there is a shortage we are still able to actually ensure that the patients, when they come in, are still able to get their prescriptions for the EpiPen if needed.”
While a notice was sent out about a potential nationwide shortage, Chiew cautions people who may think stocking up to be safe is the right the to do.
“If their EpiPen is still good, just make sure they have at least that one carried around with themselves to make sure they are safe,” he explains.
“If you do need to inject it make sure they call 911 right away but do not go into the pharmacies to start trying to stockpile because that’s what causes the shortages.”
Chiew goes on to say if you do carry an EpiPen to stay clear of places where allergens affect you most, especially in the case of a shortage.
