The campaign to bring air ambulance service to Northern BC has gotten a boost.
Today Brandt Tractors made a $10,000 dollar contribution to HEROS, the Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operations Society.
“Our work in the north is high risk, our people work hard and play hard and we need to protect them and that is ultimately what a service like HEROS can do for us” said Foji Dhansaw, Bradt Tractor’s Northern BC division manager
Vancouver, Kamloops and Prince Rupert all have air ambulance service leaving a big gap in and around Prince George.
HEROS Director Roberta Squire says the donation is another small step towards closing that hole;
“It’s proven there is a 39% reduction in mortality when a helicopter ambulance is used. What Brandt’s donation today really means is that the community is finally coming onboard, they are hearing about us and speaking out saying ‘yes we do need this’”
The group has found a helicopter in the States available for purchase for well below market price, but the campaign still has a ways to go. It needs a $3.8 million capital investment to get things off the ground and a location for a heli-pad, but Squire said that progress is slowly being made on both fronts.
