WATCH: Failed stormwater pipe the cause of Winnipeg, Carney sinkhole

WATCH:

The City of Prince George says the cause of the Winnipeg/Carney sinkhole is a failed stormwater pipe.

Crews explain ten-inch holes have formed inside the pipe, which allowed water to consume nearby debris during large rainfalls in the Spring.

The pipe collapsed in May as a result, and workers have to expand their excavation site to find safer access to the stormwater pipe.

Winnipeg Street is now closed in BOTH directions indefinitely from the intersection to 17th Avenue.
