Asay helps Canada to a bronze medal at World Cup

Pitcher Amanda Asay of Prince George did not get the decision but she played a key role in Canada’s 8-5 Bronze Medal victory over the USA at the women’s baseball World Cup in Florida.

The 30-year-old Asay left the game with her team ahead 3-2 as she allowed two unearned runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out three.

The Americans tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 7th before the Canadians exploded with five runs in the top of the 10th.

Asay had a memorable tournament as she tossed a complete game one-hitter on Tuesday in a 5-0 Super Round victory over Venezuela.

She also went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s as the Canadian DH in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to Chinese Taipei.
