PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars play the Kelowna Rockets three times in four nights this week.

The 0-1-0-1 Cougars face the 0-2 Rockets Wednesday in Kelowna plus Friday (home opener) and Saturday in Prince George.

The Cougars allowed two shorthanded goals in the opening period and then gave up three power-play goals in the final two periods.

The Royals forced overtime when Brandon Cutler beat Taylor Gauthier with just 67 seconds left in regulation time.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings are #16 in the first 2018-19 Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top 20 rankings.

The 5-1 Spruce Kings have the best record in the BCHL.

All BCHL teams have suffered at least one loss and have posted at least one win through three weekends of the season.

The Spruce Kings play their next three games on the Lower Mainland: Friday in Surrey, Saturday in Langley and Sunday in Coquitlam.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars are off to a 1-0-1 start in the BC Major Midget League.

The Cougars visit the 1-1 Vancouver NE Chiefs Saturday at 4:30 and Sunday morning at 11:30 in Burnaby.

NHL: (Exhibition in Salt Lake City)

L.A. Kings  4  Vancouver Canucks  1

The Canucks, who are 1-4 in the pre-season, play their second last exhibition game tonight in Edmonton against the Oilers.

The Vegas Golden Knights have re-signed defenceman Shea Theodore to a seven-year, $36.4 million contract.

The 23-year-old Theodore will earn $5.2 million per season.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Men’s Soccer)

The 3-1-2 UNBC Timberwolves are in second place in the Canada West men’s soccer Pacific Division,

The UNBC men have won three straight with Rob Goodey posting a six-save shutout in each of those games.

The Timberwolves play Thursday at 5 p.m. in Victoria against the 3-3-3 Vikes in a make-up game.

They also visit the 7-0-1 UBC Thunderbirds Friday night at 6:30 and Sunday afternoon at 1.

Michael Henman scored the goal for the Timberwolves.

(Canada West Women’s Soccer) 

The UNBC women’s soccer team is 1-3-2 after six games.

The Lady Timberwolves are seventh out of eight in the Pacific Division where the top six teams make the playoffs.

The UNBC women host the 5-2 UBC Thunderbirds Friday night at 6 and the 4-3 Victoria Vikes Sunday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

 

NFL:

(Final game in Week Three)

Pittsburgh Steelers  30  Tampa Bay Buccaneers  27

Ben Roethlisberger threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns to lead the 1-1-1 Steelers who built up a 30-10 lead at the half. The Bucs are 2-1.

After three weeks of the NFL season, three teams have perfect 3-0 records (Kansas City, Miami and the LA Rams) and three teams are 0-3 (Houston, Oakland, and Arizona).

The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the season and will need surgery on his injured left knee.

An MRI confirmed that Garoppolo tore his ACL while making a cut late in the 38-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The (71-86) Blue Jays are 2-3 on a seven-game homestand, which continues tonight and Wednesday against the AL West leading Houston Astros.

GOLF:

Tiger Woods has climbed to number-13 in the world golf rankings.

The 42-year-old Woods captured the TOUR Championship in Atlanta for his 80th PGA Tour win, two short of the career record held by Sam Snead.
