Mackenzie residents looking for grant support

Church renovations are on the mind of Mackenzie residents applying for the Aviva Community Fund.

Youth and user groups convene at the local church, however, upgrades are needed to make it a more suitable gathering spot. Youth for Christ Mackenzie Area Director A.J. McBlain says they are looking at four in particular.

“Upstairs is going to be the main play area so we want to replace the carpet with proper linoleum that we can play on, upgrading the stage and adding a theatre, downstairs we need to work on the kitchen because it’s not up to code, and then installing a really nice lounge downstairs so the kids can go there after school and hang out.”

McBlain explains they only just got the space, dubbed “The 92”, this summer and they have acted quickly.

“We’ve already started renovating and already started picking pallets for paint, the youth are banding together, we’re having a huge fundraiser to gather money, so the Aviva Community Fund would add to the momentum that we’ve already gained.”

Voters have until October 4th to vote. More information on how to register to vote and back story on “The 92” is available here.
