Giants shut out Cougars in third-period breakout

From zero to 60 in less than four minutes.

That’s how long it took for the visiting Vancouver Giants to take a commanding lead on the Cougars Friday night, ending in 3-0 shutout over Prince George.

All three goals against the Cats came in the final frame after the first two periods went quiet.

Prince George forward Jackson Leppard was impressed with his team’s play against a skilled Giants’ offense, but believes playing a complete game is more important.

“Obviously, we got away from the game a little bit,” said Leppard on 94.3 the GOAT‘s post-game show.

“I think going into tomorrow night, we just got to play the full 60 minutes the way that we know we can play. We’re aggressive in our own game and I think if we stick to that, we’ll have a better outcome.”

The Cougars went two-for-three (2/3) on the penalty kill, but couldn’t convert on their two power-plays throughout the evening.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 22 saves in the loss before 2,354 fans, while Vancouver’s David Tendeck recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 24 shots faced.

Cougars drop to below 500 at a record of 2-3-0-1 and will look to split the weekend double-header tonight (Saturday) against the Giants.
