Lyn Hall re-elected as PG mayor; six council incumbents joined by Sampson & Ramsay

UPDATE – 9PM:

Lyn Hall will be mayor of Prince George for a second term as the City has posted the final election results.

According to the Chief Election Officer, Hall secured more than 11,000 votes, while Willy Ens only managed to get a little more than 1,000 votes.

All six current councillors, plus Kyle Sampson (aged 25) and Cori Ramsay (aged 31), will be the next council for the next four years

Ramsay took the eighth and final spot on council, beating Dave Fuller in ninth by 692 votes.

In total, more than 13,000 eligible voters cast their ballot in this year’s civic election, which is only 24% of the 54,000-plus eligible voters.

    • Brian Skakun = 9,475 (ELECTED)
    • Kyle Sampson = 8,304 (ELECTED)

    • Murry Krause = 8,008 (ELECTED)
    • Susan Scott = 7,775 (ELECTED)
    • Terri McConnachie = 7,111 (ELECTED)
    • Frank Everitt = 6,680 (ELECTED)
    • Cori Ramsay = 5,693 (ELECTED)
    • Dave Fuller = 5,001
    • Cameron Stolz = 4,971
    • Viv Fox = 2,541
    • Chris Wood = 1,582
    • Paul Serup = 1,191

UPDATE – 8:50PM:

Lyn Hall is set to secure the mayor’s seat for a second consectuive term.

All six councillor incumbents and Kyle Sampson have secured a spot on City council.

Cori Ramsay has the eighth spot, a 454 vote lead on Cameron Stolz in ninth place.

Second set of results are in.

According to the City’s Chief Election Officer, these results are from advance polls, mail ballots, and special voting, plus the first three of the nine polling stations today.

UPDATE – 8:30PM:

First results are in.

Lyn Hall is projected to reclaim the mayor’s chair, leading 2,062 to 149 votes against Willy Ens, A 14:1 voting ratio.

As it stands, all six councillor incumbents are projected to get back in, with the two open positions currently being held by Kyle Sampson and Cori Ramsay.

The first numbers are from preliminary voting (advanced polls).

ORIGINAL STORY – 8PM:

The polls have officially closed for the 2018 Prince George civic election.

This includes mayor and council, School District 57 (SD57) trustees, and Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) electoral area directors.

The first results the City is expected to be made public will be advanced voting and mail-in ballots.

Light wildfire smoke prompts special air quality advisory from Environment Canada

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Prince George area.  They say Prince George, along with a large number of other areas of the province such as the Fraser Canyon and Okanagan, are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke for the next 24-48 hours.

Prince George's Ted Price and Anne Laughlin are being recognized for their contributions to the community with one of the highest honours one can receive in British Columbia.  The Miracle Theatre founders are among 18 individuals in the province who will be receiving a Medal of Good Citizenship in 2025. 

19,000 BC Hydro customers in PG area to be affected by outage Monday afternoon

BC Hydro says roughly 19,000 customers will be without power in the Prince George area this afternoon.  According to BC Hydro, this is due to a vehicle incident last night (Saturday) on Highway 16 West near Art Knapp Plantland that resulted in extensive damage to BC Hydro infrastructure. 

Hockeyfest 2025 to help raise funds for cancer equipment for UHNBC

September 19-21 will bring plenty of hockey action to the CN Centre, both inside and outside the arena.  The Spirit of the North Healthcare foundation is hosting Prince George's first Hockeyfest in the CN Centre parking lot, a travelling street hockey tournament fundraiser that weekend.
