Dismal voter turnout in Prince George and Vanderhoof

Both Prince George and Vanderhoof saw a decrease in ballots cast in the municipal election yesterday.

In the 2014 municipal election, 37% of Prince George’s eligible voters showed up to the polls, which at the time put the city 2.5% higher than the average BC turnout of 34.5%.

This year, of the 54,852 estimated eligible voters, only 13,184 votes were cast – dropping the voter turnout to 24%.

In Vanderhoof, 37% of the eligible population voted this year, which was a three percent decrease from the 40% turnout in 2014.
