CNC launches new partnership with Lhtako Dene

The College of New Caledonia is launching a new program targeting aboriginal communities. Funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education over 19 weeks, it will provide training to 12 qualifying students of the Lhtako Dene Nation at the CNC Quensel campus.

CNC President Henry Reiser says the program will prepare students for the trades;

“It will also give them additional workplace safety tickets. For example; Occupational First Aid, Forklift and WIMIS. All of the things that will make them more employable and job ready. The program is to prepare students to go and look for a career as a tradesperson”

The program will also focus on things such as resume building and interview skills.

One of the benefits of the program is that the math and English courses will take place within the Lhtako Dene community, increasing access and making it easier for students to upgrade their education.
