Local officer weighs in on Kamloops shooting incident

A Kamloops RCMP officer is in hospital following a shooting by a suspect in a vehicle.

Officer Jean Rene-Michaud made a routine traffic stop just before 3 am on Wednesday morning before being fired upon as he approached the vehicle.

The police are searching for a white four door Chrysler Intrepid and have gotten in touch with the owner of that vehicle, though they would not say if the car had been stolen.

Corporal Craig Douglass with the Prince George RCMP detachment says its moments like these where Police units everywhere are reminded of the dangers of the job:

“It really opens our eyes, reminds us just how dangerous our job is in the situations that we are put in every day and how of course 99.99% of the time everything goes fine and as planned, but there’s just the one time that really puts perspective on what we do”

Rene-Michaud remains in critical but stable condition, and the extent of his injuries are unknown.
