Prescribed burn planned east of PG

The BC Wildfire Service and BC Timber Sales are planning a prescribed burn about 75 kilometres east of Prince George and about seven kilometres north of the Fraser River, near the six-kilometre mark on the McGregor Forest Service Road.

The 50-hectare burn is to prepare the site for silviculture (tree planting) and to reduce the number of dead and combustible material to decrease the risk of catastrophic wildfires in the area. Smoke is expected to be visible from Highway 16.

Weather permitting, the burn could begin today. It will not proceed if weather and venting conditions are not suitable for a low- to moderate-intensity blaze. Prescribed burns must comply with the Environment Management Act and the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation to reduce the amount of smoke generated.

More information about prescribed burns is available here.
