PG has nine of ten most crash-prone intersections in the region: ICBC

Nine intersections in Prince George are in the top ten for crashes in the North-Central region of BC, according to the latest ICBC data from 2016.

The data shows PG intersections in the top ten saw between 24 and 49 crashes, with the majority being along Highway 16. Domano Blvd & Hwy 16 W & Tyner Blvd & Turning Lane (49), Ferry Ave and Hwy 16 W (45), and Hwy 16 W & Hwy 97 S & Turning Lane (39) were ranked as the top three. The lone intersection not in the northern capital on the list is in Williams Lake.

From 2012 to 2016, the region averaged 2,800 intersection crashes, resulting in 1,400 injuries and nine fatal victims*.

The five year average across the province (2012-2016) saw 94,000 incidents at intersections, with 60,000 injured victims and 73 fatal victims.

*Fatal victim refers to a road user who died within 30 days after the date an injury was sustained in a crash involving at least one motor vehicle. Excludes roads where the Motor Vehicle Act does not apply, such as forest service roads, industrial roads, and private driveways. Also excludes off-road snowmobile crashes, homicides, and suicides. -From ICBC
