Giant performance from DiLaura; Cougars earn a split

In his previous start on Nov. 2nd, Isaiah DiLaura came within 38 seconds of a shutout in a Cougars 4-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds.

On Remembrance Day afternoon before a crowd of 3,124 in Langley, DiLaura went a step further blocking all 26 shots to lead the Cougars to a 1-0 triumph over the Western Conference leading Vancouver Giants.

The 18-year-old earned his first WHL goose egg in front of his parents, who were visiting from Lakeville, Minnesota to watch him play in the WHL for the first time.

In six games this season, DiLaura has a 3-2-0-1 record with 2.38 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

The only goal of the game came from Ethan Browne on a power play eight minutes into the opening period, with Vladislav Mikhalchuk and Josh Maser picking up the assists.

Prince George was 1/5 with the man-advantage, while Vancouver went 0/4.

The Cats had 32 shots on David Tendeck.

The Cougars earned a split of the weekend doubleheader as the Giants took Saturday’s game, 2-1.

Prince George will play its next five games at the CN Centre starting Wednesday against Kelowna.

The Rockets, who lost 4-2 Sunday in Portland, are three points behind the Cats.

Kamloops is last, five points back of PG. The Blazers lost their Sunday game, 5-2 at home against Everett.

The 8-8-1-2 Cougars are third in the BC Division, just a point behind Victoria, although the Royals have three games in hand.
