Félicitations, Le Coin Des Petits Prince George!

Prince George French Canadian Circle | Kyle Balzer, My PG Now

The BC government is saying ‘merci’ to a local preschool.

Le Coin Des Petits, a Prince George Francophone institution of four decades, has been honoured with a 2018 Child Care Legacy Award in recognition of its educational service for many generations.

“This is very important for me because my first language is French, and in my family, my two kids speak French too,” explains Chantal Marquis, Early Childhood Educator of more than 20 years at the preschool.

“So to give that to the preschoolers that come here and give it to their family, it’s a plus and, after that, they continue to go to French immersion or the francophone program and they continue to speak French. I’m very pleased to do that.”

Marquis believes more can be done to implement Francophone programs into School District 57 (SD57) as demand for the language is increasingly popular.

“I have a waiting list right now for the French immersion program, and I know for Kindergarten, they have to do lots because there’s not enough spaces for them. It’s growing quite a bit in Prince George for sure.”

Right now, almost 50 kids attend Le Coin Des Petits each week.

Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond presented the plaque this afternoon on behalf of Child and Family Development Minister Katrine Conroy and Minister of State for Child Care Katrina Chen.
