The College of New Caledonia, along with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP, are launching a new joint education campaign for international students.
The program is geared towards road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Three videos were made focusing on distracted driving, pedestrian safety, and speeding.
This program comes on the heels of an incident earlier this year, where a female international student was struck and killed crossing along Highway 97 between 18th and 22nd Avenues.
“Following the tragedy in June, we really wanted to come together with our community partners to explore ways to educate our students,” said CNC International Education Operations Manager, Anne Harris.
“The idea was to create these videos to use our international students as part of that so they really had some buy-in and speak in different languages and connect with the other students that we’re trying to educate.”
The videos will also be playing at the PG theatre before every movie from December to February.
Distracted driving causes more crashes than impaired driving in BC, according to Doug MacDonald, ICBC Road Safety and Community Coordinator.
“We’re proud to support this initiative to help educate drivers and pedestrians new to our province. We all play an important role in making B.C. roads safer,” MacDonald said in a statement.
