UNBC MBB earn split against Saskatchewan, T-Wolves WBB bitten by Huskies

The Chritsmas break ended on completely differnet notes for the UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams.

Heading into Saskatoon to play the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, the T-Wolves MBB program earned a split against their rivals from the prairies earning a 83-76 victory on Friday after beginning the road trip with a 98-80 defeat the previous night.

The dynamic duo of Vova Pluzhnikov and Jovan Leamy scored a combined 50 points in the victory, improving UNBC’s record to 6-4 at the holiday break.

Thursday’s effort was all about Saskatchewan’s Lawrence Moore who had a game-high 33 points including a 12-for-23 performance on field goals.

The women were not so lucky, getting swept on the road for the second consecutive weekend, falling 92-60 (Thursday) and 83-47 (Friday) dropping to 6-4 on the season after starting the year undefeated.

Madison Landry led the Timberwolves in points with 17 during the first half of the double header while Maria Mongomo scored 28 of UNBC’s 47 points on Friday.

Sabine Dukate netted a combined 39 points over the two games for the Huskies who improve to 10-2 on the season, good enough for top spot in the Canada West.
