Opening weekend for Operation Red Nose results in 126 safe rides home

Operation Red Nose in Prince George kicked off their 21st campaign with a bang.

The designated driver service saw a combined 32 road teams hit the streets picking up party-goers.

“Well, we had a pretty good weekend, we had provided 126 safe rides home, so we did 44 rides on Friday and another 82 rides on Saturday so I’m very happy with those numbers,” said Andrea Johnson, Spokesperson.

It was a near-seamless weekend for OPN but did have to battle through a minor snag on opening night.

“Unfortunately, we had some technical issues with our phone lines on Friday for the first two hours so that resulted in some clients not being able to get through to us from about nine until eleven o’clock in the evening.”

Operation Red Nose will be back in action on Friday (7th) and Saturday (8th) and Johnson is expecting another healthy dose of volunteers.

“Typically, we’ll have between 14 to 20 teams ready to go and we’re just asking people to give us a call between 9 PM and 3 AM and we’ll send teams out there to get you in the right spot.

Volunteers are still needed for their run on New Year’s Eve.

“The big push is for New Year’s Eve. We need more than 100 volunteers alone just for the road teams to keep up with the demand so if you can do one before New Year’s Eve and then help us on that night you can get a feel for what it’s like then your bound to have a great time for sure.”

Last year, 838 safe rides home were provided in PG.
