Collectible card bylaw moving to public hearing

Nearly two years since it was first brought to council, a bylaw concerning trading and collectible cards is moving forward.

At their meeting this evening, Prince George City Council agreed that a request to make an amendment to a bylaw stating pawnbrokers and second-hand dealers have to keep collectible cards for 30 days before selling them would go forward to a public hearing.

The bylaw has an exemption already for video games, which was implemented in 2014, however, according to the report brought forward to council, the RCMP has some concern that the cards can be quite valuable, as well as rare and unique, which makes it easier to find the rightful owner should they be stolen.

A date has yet to be set, but there will be a public hearing on the matter before any final decision is made.
