Christmas Tea for Seniors appreciates PG’s ‘experienced’ residents

An annual tradition for seniors in Prince George saw them gather at the Civic Centre for tea.

Christmas Tea for Seniors, hosted by PG-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, has seniors appreciated with a meal, tea, presents, and live music.

“It’s to say thank you, to say we appreciate you and we appreciate the contributions you’ve made. I’m always thrilled when the day arrives and we’re pretty tired at the end of the day but it’s well worth it,” Bond said.

The event has been running for over a decade, growing from 80 attendees in the first year to over 900 this time.

“We start getting phone calls in my office during the summer when seniors ask what day it is so they don’t miss it,” explained Bond of its popularity.

“It’s a chance for seniors to celebrate with each other, it’s all about making them feel special and making sure they have a great chance to celebrate at Christmas time.”
