Pair of books launched by local author

Local author Mel McConaghy wrote his first book in 2009.

On Friday, he launched two more at the Books and Company in Prince George. McConaghy turned to writing after a long career of truck driving.

One of his new books, River Spirit Woman, has a connection to northern BC. A girl ends up in Fort George after an incident in the Grand Canyon.

“She’s the only one that survives and she’s pregnant,” explained McConaghy.

“She has to make a life for herself Fort George in the 1800s as a pregnant teenager.”

Gallant Ships is the other book he launched, which taps into his ten-year tenure serving in the navy.

“It’s about corvettes during the Second World War,” McConaghy said.

“These corvettes are the steel boats, not the plastic Chevrolets, and they were instrumental in helping to win the Second World War Battle of the Atlantic.”

McConaghy is at Books and Company in Prince George from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the launch. All of his book launches have been held there and he is available for signings.
