PG Library offers new programs for kids with sensory sensitivities

The Prince George public library is offering two new programs geared towards children with sensory sensitivities.

The programs, Sensory Workshop and Sensory Storytime, begin on January 13th at the Bob Harkins Branch downtown.

“For Sensory Storytime, we’ll remove any extra stimulation,” said Andra Nadeau, Youth Services, who will lead the programs.

“We’ve limited registration to ensure a smaller group and we’re holding the program on Sundays when the library is quieter. We’ll be using sensory materials and a lot of repetition to help children engage in the stories and activities.”

Any child with sensory sensitivities is welcome to participate. This includes children on the autism spectrum, those experiencing grief or loss, children who are very shy, or who have had any adverse childhood experience.

Families can prepare for their visit to Bob Harkins Branch by reading the library’s Visual Story. Find it here:  https://bit.ly/2SSfWEY.

Families must register to participate in sensory programs by calling 250-563-9251 ext. 108 or by visiting the Youth Services Desk. Registration is limited, but there are still spaces available.
