RCMP treating body found in ditch as a homicide

The body of a Prince George man was found lying in a ditch just outside of city limits on Saturday.

The North District Major Crime Unit is treating the death of the 40-year old Prince George resident as a homicide.

Police are trying to determine if there is a connection to another incident from earlier that day.

According to a news release, they received a report of a vehicle fire on Chilako Station Road, off Highway 16 in the Beaverly area, just west of Prince George city limits, around 10:30 am.

The Beaverly Volunteer Fire Department attended and extinguished the flames; the vehicle appeared to be abandoned.

Three hours later (1:30 pm), RCMP received a report of a person lying in the ditch along West Lakes Estate Road, south of city limits.

When they arrived to the scene, police found the man dead.

Investigators say they do not believe this is a random event.

They are asking anyone with information about suspicious vehicles or persons on West Lake Estates Road, Blackwater Road, Lower Mud River Road, Chilako Station Road or McBride Timber Road, to please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 or online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
