TASEKO FILES CIVIL CLAIM AGAINST OTTAWA

Taseko Mines announced Friday it’s taking the federal government to the BC Supreme Court, seeking damages for Ottawa’s rejection of a proposed mine near Williams Lake.

Corporate Affairs Vice President Brian Battison says the decision to can the open-pit, gold and copper mine has caused damages, expenses, and loss for a year.

“Their decision lives on and the implications of their decision lives on so the damage continues to live on. They made some serious mistakes during the panel process.”

Battison believes governments, both present and past, need to be held accountable for their actions.

According to the claim, Taseko has spent more than $130 million developing the $1.5 billion dollar mine.

The mine, “New Prosperity,” would provide 550 direct and 1280 indirect jobs, and generate average annual increases of $459 million to the Provincial GDP.
