Family and friends remembered the legacy the 97-year-old left behind and the impact she had on the community of Prince George.

Mayor of Prince George Lyn Hall and fellow council members were among those who came to pay their respects.

Hall spoke of her contribution to education and the part she played in the foundation of the Aboriginal Choice School.

Gouchie was laid to rest at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Cemetery after the service.

She was one of the remaining few who fluently spoke the Dakelh language matriarch to over 80 descendants.

After a battle with cancer, she passed away on January 24, 2019, a few weeks before her 98th birthday.
