Extreme cold warning in effect

People may want to stay inside today.

An extreme cold warning is in effect in Prince George and Vanderhoof.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada Chris Eomd (E-mid) says the cold warning will likely last into Monday.

it will warm up today but it will drop tonight so we will see wind chills of -40 again,” said Eomd.

Arctic air has caused the temperature to drop as low as -30 in some areas.

Children, older adults, and those without proper shelter are most at risk during this time.

Eomd said heading into next week “it will remain cold through next week but it won’t be these cold winds anymore.”
