Population of Prince George on a steady incline

The population of Prince George has risen by close to 5000 residents in the last seven years.

According to 2018 Statistics Canada estimates, the city is currently at 78,675, up from last year by 739 people, and by 4823 residents from 2011.

Mayor Lyn Hall says the numbers show that efforts to keep people in the Northern Capital are working. He mentioned the Move Up Prince George website and numerous other partners.    

“We make a concerted effort every day to attract and retain people here in Prince George,” said Hall. 

“The partnerships with CNC, UNBC, Council’s involvement, the Economic Development office, to mention a few; that’s what you need to build a community.”     

According to Stats Can, the entire district of Fraser-Fort George has grown to 100,359 in 2018 from 93,949 in 2011. 

Since 2011, Mackenzie grew from 3546 to 3858. McBride went from 588 resident to 640,  Valemount increased from 1020 to 1076 and the unincorporated areas grew from 14943 to a population 16,110.

City Council waiting for more information before saying yes to World Cup watch parties

Prince George City Council has decided to wait for more information before making a decision on hosting watch parties for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.At Wednesday's meeting, City Council discussed a notice of motion put forward by Councillors Ron Polillo and Cori Ramsay, directing staff to work with a few local organizations to plan and execute outdoor watch parties to be held at Canada Games Plaza. 

Mounties host block parties to re-engage Block Watch programs

The Prince George RCMP hosted a Block Watch Part at Shas Ti Kelly Road yesterday (Saturday). This was one of four Block Watch Parties to be put on by the RCMP, each of them encompassed different parts of the city.
