Prince George temperature ties 3rd coldest Feb.13th on record

The frigid conditions today didn’t break any records but they tied for the third coldest February 13th.

The temperature in Prince George hit -33 this morning (Wednesday), matching the mark set in 1990.

Carmen Hartt, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said it’s hard to break their weather records because they go back all the way to 1912.

“It was very cold this morning, but the actual record for this date was -43.9, set in 1936.”

She said this month has seen temperatures consistently hitting well below the ordinary.

“It has been a very cold February, we’ve had an average low of -28 and an average high of -12,” Hartt told MyPGNow.com.

“Normally we see a low of minus -10 and high of 0. We’ve been 10 to 20 degrees below normal for February so far.”

She said it looks like we’ll be keeping these temperatures for the rest of the month at least, but they’re still predicting an overall warm, mild trend for this winter. For that to happen, said Hartt, the temperatures will have to heat up in March.

The coldest it has ever been in Prince George was -50 in 1950.
