Contractor’s Alerts issued for two area construction projects

The BC Construction Association released two Contractor’s Alerts on Monday with regards to two Prince George construction projects.

“Our construction alert is focused on BC Housing not being in the alignment with the industry standards of procurement practices,” says Northern Regional Construction Associations’ CEO Scott Bone.

The projects mentioned in the alerts are the building remediation on Westwood Court and renovation work required for the Hart Haven Group Home at Dagg Road.

When it comes to the procurement process, BC Housing lacked clarity when it comes to the criteria in which they award projects to contractors.

“Primarily, what BC Housing is doing in this particular project is that they’re considering contractor’s qualifications in that process (of procurement). It’s a process our industry does not support, nor does it follow the guidelines put forth by the province of British Columbia”

In situations like the one’s for these two particular projects, the NRCA will provide contractors with information on what’s referred to as ‘Owner’s Conditions’ if they are successful in the bidding process for the particular project.

Bone says the concern has been an ongoing issue when it comes to BC Housing’s construction postings.

“We have been working with BC Housing for just over three years with these particular issues,” says Bone. “Unfortunately, BC Housing has not considered the recommendations in terms of our expectations that they follow the rules of the procurement process.”
