Lockdown over at Kelly Road; Man apprehended

Update at 2:30

RCMP officers responded to a report of an adult male in mental distress at a residence on Handlen Road in Prince George this morning (Thursday) at 11:45.

Firearms were believed to be involved.

The man was apprehended by members of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team without further incident at 1:20 this afternoon.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Due to the close proximity of Kelly Road Secondary School, police instructed school administration to initiate emergency procedures to ensure students remained safely inside until the incident was resolved.

The investigation is continuing.

Update at 1:45

According to Superintendent of School District 57,  Marilyn Marquis Forster, the lockdown at Kelly Road Secondary was lifted as of 1:45 this afternoon.

“All students and staff are safe, there will be regular dismissals and school officials are preparing a communication to go home with students,” she said.

There is a police incident today near Kelly Road Secondary.

The School is locked down with students inside, but a fire crew says there is no threat inside the school.
