DNA match leads to arrest of hit and run suspect in Prince George

An arrest was made today in Prince George on a three year old hit and run case from Kamloops.

In August of 2016, a Kamloops woman was struck by a vehicle while out jogging with a friend.

The vehicle crossed the centre line and hit the woman, went into the ditch and then got back on the road; leaving the scene without assisting the victim.

The jogger suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

RCMP searched the area extensively and when they located the vehicle involved, found it had been stolen earlier in the morning.

Police were able to obtain the suspect’s DNA from inside the car, however, it didn’t match with any samples in the National DNA database until now.

The match was made with Joshua Joseph Pooli, from Kamloops and living in Prince George, he was arrested today.

Pooli will be transported to Kamloops to face charges of: Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident, Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of Stolen Property and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of the Kamloops RCMP told MyPGNow.com, “anytime that we can find a suspect, especially in a file that’s a few years old is really great. It was just a matter of waiting for his DNA to come into the data bank, we’re really pleased, especially for the victim, who was doing absolutely nothing wrong. This will be great closure for her.”
