Prince George gets over $8-million to update infrastructure

Prince George is one of many communities in the North receiving funding from the province for long-standing infrastructure needs and support planning for future opportunities.

The city is getting $8,135,000 as part of the $100-million Northern Capital and Planning Grant.

Mayor of Prince George, Lyn Hall said the money will have a huge impact on the community.

“Our below ground infrastructure has needed repair and replacing so in the outline of what the grant dollars are available for we are going to get specifics on what we can use the money on.”

The city’s sewer system is one of the main project Hall said the city will be addressing with a focus on intersections for larger neighbourhoods.

He added the nice things about the grant is that it offers some flexibility on what municipalities can use it on.

“The funding from the Northern Capital and Planning Grant will go a long way in helping us maintain and improve the infrastructure we have, enhancing the liveability of our rural communities within the Fraser-Fort George region,” said Art Kaehn, chair of the Fraser-Fort George Regional District board.
