Art Centre looking for impactful artists

Looking to finely tune your craft?

The Omineca Arts Centre in Prince George is looking for pre-emerging and professional local, regional and visiting artists, as well as performers for their artist residency.

According to the centre’s website, residencies are open to performance, music, literary and visual artists and collaborative, multidisciplinary projects.

The purpose of the residency program to provide time and space for artists and performers to explore a creative process or work on a project, which can vary in duration.

“We’re trying to help emerging — and maybe marginalized — artists come forward and have a space for them to display their artwork,” Omineca board member Darcie Smith told MyPGNow.

Smith adds the residency runs for one month.

As part of being awarded a residency, artists will receive 20 hours of studio time for them to work on projects. They will also be required to put on a three-hour workshop, in which Omineca will provide any necessary materials needed by the resident.

The residency will also allow the artist’s work to be on exhibition for two to four weeks, while also earning a $1,000 honorarium.

“We’re going to look at the quality of the proposal,” said Smith. “One of the big things is we want to see the potential impact of the residency on the artist’s career, and on our community.”

Applicants are asked to apply online through the Omineca Art Centre’s website.
